U.N. focuses on Water, Sanitation and Energy for post-2015 development agenda
The UN Millennium Development Goal is meeting its deadline in 2015. It is ending with serious note on lack of drinking water, sanitation and access to electricity for millions of people around the world. Conscious of this shortcoming, the 193-member General Assembly meeting has prioritized to address three thematic issues: water, sanitation and sustainable energy, specifically in the context of the U.N.’s post-2015 development agenda. 2nd Team Building program organized
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene-Resource Centre Network Nepal (WASH-RCNN) in collaboration with Environment and Public Health Organization and Nepal WASH Alliance organized the 2nd Team Building Program for WASH Sector Stakeholders on 7th and 8thFebruary 2014 at the Borderlands Eco Adventure Resort in Sindhupalchowk.

The main objective of the program was to create a common forum to share among WASH sector stakeholders in an informal setting and to discuss and identify good practices and areas of improvement in the WASH sector of Nepal through "Experiential Learning."

Altogether, 34 participants from 25 different organizations particularly working on WASH issues, including media persons and academicians, participated in the program. The program was facilitated by The Borderlands Team.

Sarlahi District Sanitation Conference
The District WASH Coordination Committee (D-WASH-CC), Sarlahi organized District Sanitation Conference in Malangawa, Sarlahi on 7th and 8th February, 2014. The conference concluded with an aim of declaring Sarlahi an open defecation free district by mid-April 2016. The WASH sector stakeholders attending the conference committed to follow the 13-point declaration to achieve the target of ODF Drict by mid-April 2016. SACOSAN V report available
The conference report of 5th South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN V) is now publically available. All the proceedings and detail of the conference can be found in the report. The conference was held in Kathmandu on 22-24 October, 2013. The SACOSAN, a government-led biennial convention held on a rotational basis in each SAARC member country, provides an interactive platform for improving sanitation in South Asia. The next SACOSAN will be held in Bangladesh in 2015. Click here to download the full report.

Training on Sanitation and Urine Application
The Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) organized a day long training on “Sanitation and Urine Application” for 45 Junior Technical Assistant (JTA)-Agriculture students and 10 teachers of Shree Jana Jyoti Higher Secondary School Badichaur-5, Kunathari VDC of Surkhet district on 22nd January 2014. Similar training was organized for 32 farmers of Ramghat VDC and Latikoli VDC of Surkhet district on 23rd January 2014. The trainings were conducted under the S-WASH project and Productive Reuse Project supported by WASTE and RUAF Foundation though the Dutch WASH Alliance support.

NAST Seminar on “Water and Energy”
The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) is organizing one day seminar on “Water and Energy” on the occasion of World Water Day 2014. Young scientists from water, energy and sanitation fields will present papers at the program. The program will be accompanied by an exhibition on the same theme. The program will be held on 24th March, 2014 at NAST building, Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
